About Us

Our Mission

Creations for Cures is a non-profit organization that helps children and their families battle cancer using the power of art. We do this through our Art Kit and Art Hour programs. In addition to our programs, we host art events and partner with other organizations who have joined the fight in defeating childhood cancer.

Why Creations For Cures Was Started

“As a cancer survivor myself, I learned how significant creating art was. It was and still is, a way I can express myself and experience joy. I used a watercolor set my mother gave me to paint birds as a way to be with my father, who had passed away the previous year from cancer. Often I would just put color on paper without any intention at all, just to feel good. Other times I would study images, practice, and give my favorite version to someone I know. My vision for Creations For Cures is to use art as a weapon in the fight against cancer.”

Meet Our Team

Renee Dieffenderfer

Founder & President

I grew up on the East Coast and have lived in Oregon with my husband since 2011. Professionally, I have a background in business operations and a love for serving others. When I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2012, my world changed. I learned what was important and the different challenges someone with cancer endures. I learned how to express myself and re build confidence. I learned how important it is to love and be loved. Today, that passion revolves around a community of youth who are underserved, fighting cancer. I am proud to be the founder of an organization that reflects the power of creativity in the healing world.

Caroline Bates

Secretary & Director of Recording

I live in the hills of Berkeley springs, WV with my soulmate and our three wild boys. We enjoy the simple life of weekend homesteaders. We love the peace, nature, the birds and the bees (in our case chickens and honey bees) of the outdoors. However, I have spent my share of time in the hospital. I know how hard those long days can be. I spent a week in the children’s ward myself as a teen, and almost a year in the NICU with my daughter Ellora, our little angel. When my sister Renee came to me with her vision I was truly inspired. I know that together we can help those going through the long days and nights in hospitals. We can give them an outlet for their hopes and fears, and a support network to help them transition through these times.
